AT&R Unit : Outdoor Furniture & Bedside Lamps

The Assessment, Treatment & Rehabilitation Unit (AT&R) at Nelson Hospital provides rehabilitation to adult patients who need time and support to achieve independence after a stroke, fracture or major surgery.

The average length of stay is two weeks and the Unit’s large outdoor area plays an important role in patients’ rehabilitation and socialisation. In partnership with Mitre 10 Nelson, The Care Foundation was able to replace the Unit’s old outdoor furniture, which was no longer fit for purpose, with sturdy new tables and chairs. With the addition of donated planter pots, the outdoor area is now a more inviting space for patients to get some fresh air and socialise with visitors and other patients.

In addition, The Care Foundation funded touch-activated bedside lamps for the Unit which make it far easier for patients with limited movement, to turn on/off lighting so they can read or do puzzles/craft while in bed.
