About us

The Care Foundation is a charitable trust incorporated under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957 (CC26612) and was formerly known as The Nelson-Marlborough Hospitals Charitable Trust.

The Foundation was established to administer the donations and bequests received by the Nelson Marlborough District Health Board. Today, all donations and bequests from grateful patients and supporters are received through The Care Foundation where we ensure they are managed and applied strictly in accordance with each donor’s wishes.

While we work in close partnership with Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand Nelson Marlborough, The Care Foundation is an independent entity governed by its own Board of Trustees. This means you can have complete confidence that your donation is held separately and used solely for charitable purposes, not for general running costs.

From the funds we administer, we provide grants to support projects which align with our donors’ intentions and have the greatest impact on healthcare in our Region.  We welcome any health-related, not-for-profit groups in the Region to apply for funding.

We also fundraise for key healthcare projects identified by local health professionals. Please visit our Current Projects page to find out about the initiatives we are currently fundraising for.

We believe collaboration creates greater impact. By partnering with other charities, organisations and businesses, The Care Foundation helps bring together people and resources to strengthen healthcare in our community.
