Our Team

The Care Foundation is governed by a Board of voluntary Trustees who come from across the Region and bring a wide range of business experience and enthusiasm for improving healthcare services. The day to day running of the Foundation is handled by Clare Haycock, General Manager, assisted by Jane Grenfell.

Sarah-Jane Weir
Co Chair

Sarah-Jane joined us a trustee in May 2016.  She brings experience in ‘not-for-profit’ governance through her background as a partner at law firm Anderson Lloyd and her roles in governance that include being Chair of Nelson Regional Development Agency and Nelson Bay Primary Health, a trustee on the Cawthron Trust Board, a National Councillor and Branch Chair of the Institute of Directors in Nelson/Marlborough.

Sarah-Jane lives in Nelson with her husband and young family.

“Our Region is strengthened with any improvement we can contribute to its health and wellbeing, I’m committed to helping that happen”.

Roger Rose
Trustee

Blenheim born and bred Roger has a long history with his association with the Marlborough Express newspaper.

Roger chaired the Marlborough Hospital Equipment Trust, established in 1989, which fundraised about $1 million collectively to buy computerised tomograph (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners and other equipment for Wairau Hospital in Blenheim.

Roger is very passionate about healthcare in his community and hopes to improve healthcare for Marlborough.

Richard Olliver
Co Chair

Richard was born and bred in Marlborough and educated at Marlborough Boys College and currently lives in Blenheim with his wife, Paula, and two girls, Sarah and Kate.

"Before shifting back ‘home’, I did law and commerce degrees at the University of Canterbury, played rugby until I was broken, and worked for a number of organisations with the longest stint at Macquarie Bank in Wellington, Sydney and London.

Since returning from London in 2005, I have held Director and Executive Director roles in a number of small and large companies.

The ‘Top of the South’ is a great part of the world and a wonderful place to live.  To continue its prosperity, Marlborough and Nelson need to have access to excellent healthcare in an ever-changing world.

The Care Foundation will play an important role in delivering this healthcare.  I’m keen to play a role in making this happen."

Jules Taylor
Trustee

At university Jules completed a degree in Zoology. Finding there was a slight shortage of vacancies for zoologists in Marlborough, Jules chose a second option and went on to do a postgraduate course in winemaking and viticulture at Lincoln.

Her first job was working at one of Marlborough’s original custom wineries, Vintech, and work continued with vintages in Piedmont, Sicily, Australia and Cloudy Bay, before taking a permanent job at Marlborough Valley Cellars. This was the big step.

Jules launched her own label and, in 2001, Jules made her first batch of Jules Taylor wines. Jules lives in Blenheim with her husband and two sons and is passionate about the region and everything it has to offer.

Jenny Black
Trustee

Jenny came to Nelson in 1982 as a Dietitian. She worked for the health services for 18 years. In 2007 Jenny stood for the Nelson Marlborough District Health Board and in 2010 was appointed to the role of Chair, a position she held until DHB’s were abolished in 2022. The provision of public health services has always been the driver for being involved and Jenny acknowledges that it is hard to provide all that is needed via the public purse. The redevelopment of The Care Foundation to provide the ‘top up funding’ that supports staff and research, provides equipment or seed funding for innovation in healthcare, is something Jenny is very supportive of and extremely grateful to the wider community for their donations towards.
