About us

The Care Foundation is a charitable trust incorporated under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957 (CC26612) and was previously known as The Nelson-Marlborough Hospitals Charitable Trust.

The Foundation was originally set up to administer the donations and bequests received by the Nelson Marlborough District Health Board. All donations received from grateful patients and bequests are passed through to The Care Foundation and we ensure they are managed and applied strictly in accordance with donors’ wishes. Although we work in partnership with Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand Nelson Marlborough, The Care Foundation is a separate entity governed by independent trustees and as such you can have full confidence that any donations made are kept separate and do not get swallowed up in general running costs.

From the funds we administer, we provide grants to support projects which align to our donors’ wishes and have the greatest impact on healthcare in our Region.  We welcome any health-related, not-for-profit groups in the Region to apply for funding.

We also fundraise for specific key healthcare projects that have been identified by health professionals in our Region. Please visit our Current Projects page to find out about the initiatives we are currently fundraising for.

The Care Foundation recognises that collaborating with other charities, organisations and businesses can amplify the positive impact in our community. We encourage you to get in touch to explore how we can join together to achieve a greater impact.
