Humidifier for Special Care Baby Unit

Care Foundation Funding Focus – Comfort and Care

At times the Special Care Baby Unit at Nelson Hospital have multiple babies needing respiratory support. To provide optimal care in those times, the Unit needed an additional Humidifier to ensure all babies could receive the best care.

The supply of warmed and moistened gases delivered to a baby with respiratory issues is achieved by using a humidifier.  This maintains a constant temperature which in turn protects the babies airway from drying out, therefore supporting optimal breathing function.  We may have 2 – 3 babies receiving respiratory support at any one time, so the addition of the further unit funded by the Care Foundation has ensured that we can provide that optimal care in a safe and effective way.
